The OpportunityAs an Export Control & Sanctions Specialist, you’ll ensure EDF’s compliance with local and international trade regulations, including export control and sanctions, by developing and maintaining licensing frameworks and securing the necessary export control licences. You’ll support a wide range of internal stakeholders—such as IT, HR, Supply Chain, Engineering, Project Managers, and R&D—by aligning licensing needs with business requirements. You’ll act as a point of contact for trade compliance queries, building strong relationships across the organisation and assisting with the development of supporting processes, procedures, and training programmes. With a proactive approach to learning, you’ll engage with technical areas of the business and help shape and implement a robust trade compliance strategy. Because success is personal.What you’ll be doingYou will provide expert guidance to EDF’s businesses on meeting UK and international export control and sanctions requirements. This includes supporting the design and implementation of compliance processes, managing licence applications, and advising on operational trade control needs across multiple functions, such as Supply Chain, Project Management, HR, and R&D. Collaboration will be central to your role, as you assess transactions and technical data for regulatory impact, maintain accurate compliance records, and help shape digital transformation projects in trade compliance. You’ll contribute to training delivery, support internal and external audits, and lead or assist in investigations to resolve non-compliance issues. Reporting obligations to UK and international authorities will also be a key responsibility, requiring strong attention to detail and a methodical approach. In addition, you’ll stay informed of evolving legislation, contribute to strategic compliance planning, and engage with stakeholders at all levels, including legal advisors and government bodies. Your role will also involve representing EDF in industry forums, maintaining strong internal relationships, and supporting the Export Control & Sanctions Manager to ensure a consistent and effective compliance programme. Who you areYou’ll have proven experience in export control, licensing, and international trade regulations, including UK OGELs/SIELs/F680, EU dual-use regulations, and US ITAR/EAR and Part 810/110 laws. You’ll be confident working in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment where your knowledge directly impacts operational decisions and compliance practices. Experience with third-party screening tools and the UK SPIRE system is highly desirable. You’ll have the ability to interpret complex regulations, provide commercially pragmatic advice, and make accurate export jurisdiction and classification assessments across services, software, technology, and products. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, alongside excellent communication abilities that allow you to translate technical requirements for a wide audience. A solid understanding of trade terms and contractual clauses will support you in negotiating compliance obligations with both internal teams and external partners. We’re looking for someone motivated, detail-oriented, and adaptable, with the confidence to influence across all levels of the organisation and communicate effectively with government authorities. You’ll be comfortable managing competing priorities, identifying improvements in compliance practices, and supporting regulatory change. If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!
