Overview
Senior Energy Consultant - Heat Network role at Turner & Townsend. We are seeking individuals with experience in Heat Network (HN) and wider Distributed Energy (DE) projects or programmes. By Distributed Energy we refer to distributed, flexible, resilient and low to zero carbon heat and power networks and resources, including heat networks, solar PV, heat pumps, energy storage, demand side flexibility, and vehicle-to-grid charging for electric vehicles. Experience of project development (scoping, business case, finance, high level technical) for schemes involving heat networks and local energy networks/smart grid (including battery storage) is expected, potentially including integration with home EV charging or car battery storage.
This role focuses on developing and delivering DE and HN solutions within Turner & Townsend's growing Sustainability team in the UK. We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate competence across a range of commissions.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to the development and delivery of heat networks and wider DE schemes, including scoping, business case development, finance and high‑level technical input (consultant rather than engineer).
* Apply knowledge of DE technologies and solutions across multiple technologies; identify and assess energy saving opportunities and provide investment case support.
* Support project delivery through feasibility, procurement and implementation stages; help overcome barriers to DE and ensure project/programme KPIs are met.
* Support metering and billing considerations and stay informed of Government policy surrounding heat networks.
* Provide programme management, reporting and organisational skills to manage DE/HN projects.
* Engage with clients and stakeholders to ensure high quality service delivery and strong relationships.
* Work within the broader Sustainability team to support energy strategies, decarbonisation plans and NET ZERO objectives as required.
Qualifications
Essential
* A high quality of service delivery and client management
* Consultancy experience within DE and HN projects
* Successful track record in facilitating and delivering DE schemes across a variety of client organisations and achievement in meeting project or programme KPIs
* Track record in overcoming barriers to DE through one or more project stages such as:
o Feasibility
o Commercialisation
o Procurement
o Delivery of projects
* Working knowledge and experience in DE solutions, covering multiple technologies
* Excellent customer relationship development capability
* Have a good grasp of metering and billing regulations and awareness of Government policy surrounding HN
* Programme management, reporting and organisational skills
* A working knowledge of energy demands in buildings and any relevant regulations and design codes i.e. CP1, Building Regulations Part L
Preferred
* Business Development experience
* Stakeholder engagement experience
* Development of energy strategies and master planning for DE
* Ability to carry out DE data analysis
