Role Summary
The Public Transport Planner will support the delivery of quality public transport services in Medway by providing specialist technical and administrative support for the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) and Enhanced Partnership (EP) outputs, including the successful operation of Chatham Waterfront Bus Station. The role is a fixed-term contract of 36 months, renewable or permanent if budget allows.
Responsibilities
* Work with commercial and tendered bus operators to ensure an effective, user-friendly and integrated bus network.
* Report progress to the Department for Transport (DfT) and other key stakeholders.
* Support the governance structure of the BSIP and EP.
* Build and maintain partnerships with local bus operators and other stakeholders, including negotiating with these groups.
* Engage with the public and local stakeholders (including businesses) to ensure bus services meet the needs of the local population and visitors.
* Identify funding opportunities and promotional opportunities for buses.
* Understand legislation and guidance from government departments that impact buses and apply it to deliver improvements.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated knowledge of the technical and professional aspects of public transport in a local authority or similar organisation.
* Experience liaising with external organisations to facilitate partnership working.
* Ability to interpret legislation and guidance impacting buses.
* Ability to work in a hybrid environment (office and home).
Key Information
Contract: 36 months fixed term, with possibility of extension or permanent conversion.
Work arrangement: hybrid, mix of office (White House building next to Chatham Waterfront Bus Station) and home.
Location: White House building, next to Chatham Waterfront Bus Station.
