Are you a recent graduate with a passion for supporting young people with special educational needs as they prepare for adulthood?
GSL Education seeks a motivated and compassionate Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to support learners aged 16–19 within a specialist Post-16 SEN provision in Ashington. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in a supportive setting, particularly those interested in careers in education, psychology, therapy, or social care.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, and communication needs.
* Assist in delivering life skills, vocational training, and academic sessions tailored to post-16 learners.
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to promote independence, confidence, and progression.
* Encourage and model positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
* Help students access community-based learning and transition planning.
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and support services.
* Maintain accurate records and contribute to progress reports.
Job Requirements:
* A recent degree in Psychology, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field.
* Experience working with young people or individuals with SEN is desirable but not essential.
* A caring, patient, and proactive approach.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Willingness to support with personal care if required.
* Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
