At Avondale Vet Group, we’re not just offering a job – we’re offering a career with flexibility, support, and the chance to shape your role around your strengths and lifestyle. We’re looking for an experienced and proactive Farm Vet who wants to make a real difference to clients while progressing in a thriving, semi-rural mixed practice.
Whether your passion is dairy, beef, sheep, or smallholding work, we’ll support your development and help you grow within a collaborative and progressive team. As part of IVC Farm, you’ll also be plugged into a nationwide network of farm vets, opening doors to CPD, mentorship, and shared learning.
Fix or flex – your ideal work-life balance
We know that one size doesn’t fit all, which is why we’re committed to offering genuine flexibility to suit your lifestyle. Whether you’re looking for part-time hours or a 4- or 5-day working week, we’ll work with you to find a rota that fits. Our full-time role offers up to 40 hours per week, with the option to spread these across 4 or 5 days depending on your preference. Following a weekend on-call, you’ll benefit from a half-day off to recharge.
The out-of-hours rota operates on a 1 in 4 basis, with a day off in lieu and additional pay for any OOH work. To support your role, a pickup vehicle is provided for both work and personal use. Ultimately, we aim to offer flexible working patterns that promote a healthy, balanced lifestyle—whatever stage you’re at in your career.

Where passion meets purpose
Avondale is a long-established mixed practice with roots dating back to 1921—our founder was the first vet to diagnose a left displaced abomasum (LDA)! Today, we are a busy, modern, purpose-built practice providing small animal, equine, and farm services from our site in Strathaven, just 40 minutes from Glasgow. Our farm caseload is varied and rewarding, ranging from large-scale dairy enterprises to progressive beef and sheep farms, as well as smallholdings.
We have a DBR-qualified vet on the team and pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, practical, and relationship-focused on-farm support. You'll be joining a friendly and experienced team that includes 2 Clinical Directors, 20 vets, 7 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 3 Student Veterinary Nurses, and 9 dedicated support staff. We value open communication and shared decision-making, holding regular departmental and full-team meetings to stay connected, support one another, and continuously improve our service.
Live the lifestyle you deserve
Strathaven is a vibrant, historic market town with a fantastic community feel. From Strathaven Castle to award-winning parks, a local airfield, a golf course, and excellent local schools, it offers an outstanding quality of life. With easy access to the buzz of Glasgow and the beauty of the Clyde Valley, this is the perfect base for a vet who wants to balance career development with lifestyle. We also know how to have fun—whether it’s getting soaked at the annual Strathaven Raft Race or cheering from the banks, our team enjoys being active in the community and supporting each other outside of work.
Ready to elevate your veterinary career? Whether you're a seasoned large animal vet or looking to take the next step in your career with the right support behind you, we’d love to hear from you. Let’s build something brilliant—together.
