Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated, skilled, and enthusiastic Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our busy Sedgefield North Community Mental Health Team, providing care/treatment within a recovery framework.

You will need to have significant experience of working with people with mental ill health in a care setting, delivering clinical interventions specific to care pathways. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You are required to have the ability and experience to manage complex cases in partnership with other agencies and provide clinical leadership to nursing staff within the team. In addition, you will have further developed your clinical skills as a Non-medical prescriber and are practicing at level 2 with experience of prescribing in a secondary care setting. You will support service users in their recovery.

You will fully embrace the Community Transformation agenda and encourage ongoing engagement from all staff utilizing effective leadership skills. You are required to use your own initiative and make decisions independently for this post.

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will be expected to supervise and mentor members of staff and provide clinical advice. You will be a member of the supercell and take on a leadership role in developing the service to meet the demands within the current health and social care system.

Working alongside the team manager, the successful candidate will be expected to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment and provide clinical leadership within the team, utilizing skills to support team members. The role also maintains the offer of intervention and therapies to a defined caseload.

The post holder will be part of a resilient and professional team working collaboratively with internal and external partners to support the needs of those who are experiencing a deterioration in their mental health and their family carers.

You will be able to develop and demonstrate clinical leadership, supervisory and coaching skills, and a comprehensive knowledge of mental health care, the Mental Health Act, and complex risk assessment.

Strong team working is essential, requiring networking with a variety of people, as well as working in partnership with a range of different agencies both internal and external to the team.

Qualifications

Essential

* Current Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council - RMN / RNLD/ RGN (RNSC - CAMHS Only)
* Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor or currently in progress of achieving.
* Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing Clinical Supervision or in the process of achieving
* Postgraduate diploma in a subject relevant to the area or be willing to work towards and achieve within 2 years
* Within the first year of being in post, hold a recognised qualification in a governed therapy/advanced clinical qualification (e.g., Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy, Post Grad diploma in CBT, British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, NMP - Independent Prescriber)
* Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master's level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience, together with evidence of relevant CPD

Experience

Essential

* Significant experience working with patients with complex needs in the specialist field.
* Experience working with patients who display risk behaviors.
* Clinical risk assessment and management and its application in practice.
* Working collaboratively with service users, families, and carers.
* Working in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Participation in quality improvement activities.

Knowledge

Essential

* Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally.
* Understanding and working knowledge of the legal framework and statutory obligations under the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act.
* Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice.
* Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance and its application in practice.
* Working knowledge of clinical medicines management.
* Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment (depending on the specialist area).
