The role

exists to ensure accurate reporting and to help management make informed, strategic decisions across the group's construction and retail operations.


Key Responsibilities

1. Prepare monthly management accounts and reporting packs for senior management
2. Allocate cash receipts to invoices
3. Complete bank reconciliations and post general ledger entries (accruals, prepayments, journals)
4. Match invoices to sales orders and certificates
5. Set up, verify, and process subcontractor payments
6. Process monthly cost transfers and accrual entries
7. Provide documentation and support for internal audits
8. Prepare and submit VAT returns
9. Assist with cashflow forecasting
10. Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
11. Produce sales and stock reports
12. Carry out credit control as required
13. Reconcile balance sheet accounts and maintain supporting schedules
14. Uphold company values and act as a positive role model within the business
15. Support project work and assist with commercial reporting
16. Work flexibly across different locations when needed, including retail sites
17. Undertake ad‑hoc duties assigned by senior management


Qualifications, Experience & Competencies
Qualifications

18. Part‑qualified accountant or equivalent (AAT / CIMA / ACCA / ACA / QBE)

Experience

19. Previous accounting or finance experience is essential
20. Experience within construction or retail environments is beneficial but not required

Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills

21. Strong IT skills, particularly Excel
22. Experience with Exchequer or similar finance systems

23. Understands commercial activity, market drivers, and the wider economic landscape
24. Able to translate financial data into meaningful business insight
