 
        
        Job Summary
Radiological Physics and Radiation Protection section of Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering at Leeds provides scientific, technical and expert advice in diagnostic x‑ray and non‑ionising radiation (ultrasound, UV, laser). The postholder will recruit, line‑manage technologist staff, work closely with clinical teams and advance the quality management system for non‑ionising work. The role is based at the Leeds General Infirmary with frequent travel to other hospital sites.
Key Responsibilities
 * Day‑to‑day management of the technical team and delivery of specialised QA measurements on ultrasound, UV, laser and other high‑value equipment.
 * Ensure all QA measurements are undertaken safely, on time and that equipment is calibrated, stored and handled appropriately.
 * Provide and deliver training to clinical technologists on non‑ionising QA procedures.
 * Line‑manage technologist staff – recruitment, appraisal, performance management and staff development.
 * Prioritise workload to minimise clinical disruption while maintaining high safety standards.
 * Represent the section in quality‑management meetings and develop and maintain ISO9001 procedures and documentation.
 * Ensure contractual obligations with Managed Equipment Service (MES) and MPCE are met, including fault support, maintenance schedules and reporting of equipment issues.
 * Assist in evaluating, commissioning and acceptance testing of new non‑ionising equipment.
 * Maintain an equipment inventory database, including recording of work and measurements.
 * Safely store, handle and calibrate expensive specialist test equipment.
Required Qualifications & Experience
 * Graduate‑level or equivalent qualification in physics or physical science; MSc or equivalent in physics or highly specialised QA of non‑ionising equipment.
 * Registration or impending application to the Register of Clinical Technologists.
 * Proven experience in QA measurements on ultrasound, UV and laser equipment in a medical environment.
 * Experience managing and training staff in QA procedures and protocols.
 * Experience maintaining ISO quality systems and meeting contractual obligations.
 * Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with effective communication abilities.
 * Competent in database administration, spreadsheet design and office applications.
Desirable
 * Formal management training.
 * Computer programming experience.
 * Internal auditor experience.
 * Personal transport for work travel.
