About the Role
We are seeking a caring, patient and committed SEND Teaching Assistant to support a Year 2 child with additional needs in our welcoming primary school in Penwortham, Preston. The successful candidate will provide personalised support throughout the school day, helping the pupil access learning, develop independence and feel confident within the classroom environment.
The child uses Widgit symbols and visuals as part of their daily communication and routine, so experience with visual support systems is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with special educational needs
Use Widgit visuals and other communication aids to support understanding
Adapt learning materials to ensure the child can access the curriculum
Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to follow support plans and strategies
Promote the child's social, emotional and academic development
Help to create an inclusive, nurturing classroom environment
Record observations and contribute to reviews and progress meetings
About You
We are looking for someone who:
Has previous SEND experience, ideally within a primary school setting
Understands the needs of children with communication and learning barriers
Is confident using visual communication tools (e.g., Widgit) or willing to learn
Demonstrates patience, consistency, and a positive approach
Works well as part of a supportive team
Is reliable, proactive and able to build trusting relationships with pupils
