ThisisanexcitinganduniqueopportunityforanexperiencedHaematologyNurse or a Nurse with an oncology background to work within the HaematologyteamattheLuton Hospitalsite.Theprimefunction ofthisroleistoprovideclinicalexpertiseinsupportinganddeliveringhighstandardsofnursingcare topatients with Oncology/Haematology related conditionsand tosupporttheirfamilies/carers. Thepostholderwill workwiththeteamtodelivernurseledfollowupclinicsrequired for Oncology/Haematologypatients.They will beresponsibleforsupportingthecontinuousimprovementofqualityofservicesandsafeguarding highstandardsofcarebysustaininganenvironmentinwhichexcellenceinclinicalcarecanflourish. The post holder will provide specialist knowledge, support and will be a leader in developing the Haematology service fulfilling the expectations and capabilities of a Senior Specialist Nurse. This will be achieved through workplace-based training and assessments and in clinical practice, with support through clinical supervision as required.


Main duties of the job

* To support the Haematology Clinical Lead, Haematology Lead Nurse. Head of Nursing for Specialist Medicine and the General Manager to take a lead role in the planning and delivery of a first class service for patients with Oncology/Haematology related conditions in line with improving outcome goals.
* To facilitate the translation of policy into best practice.
* To influence the provision of best practice within health services across hospital and community providers through education and supervision.
* The post holder will be expected to work with a wide range of health/social care professionals within the acute hospital, outpatients and community setting.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* To provide specialist nurse provision that is consistent and equitable.
* Assist withthedevelopmentof clinical servicesfor benign and malignant haematological conditions.
* To develop and implement new protocols or policies and to monitor and evaluate their effect.
* BeresponsibleforacaseloadofHaematologypatientsandactastheirkeyworker,attending specialist MDTs to provide relevant information.
* To undertake venepuncture skills when required.
* Willingness to complete non-medical prescribing and non-medical prescribing of blood product duties (if not already achieved this competency) within the legal framework for nurse prescribing.
* To take a specific lead on complaints and incident analysis in terms of governance learning and improvement.
* To develop appropriate measures for service improvement and ensure that they are delivered as intended.
* Participate in the inclusive recruitment, appraisal and professional development of team members. Providing supervision, mentoring or line management where appropriate, seeking support from more senior managers as necessary.
* Remains adaptable to change, continually developing own practice in response to changing health policies, new treatments, population needs or social challenges.
* Participates in clinical governance reviews an the investigation of clinical incidents and serious incidents; leads and facilitates others to share lessons learned adapt systems and processes accordingly.
* Supports team members from a managerial perspective including direct line management responsibilities (where required), such as supporting wellbeing, absence management, appraisals and conduct or performance management.
* Recognises the critical importance of wellbeing in self and others, seeking to identify and manage stressors or pressures to promote health and wellbeing.
* Will actively participate in the development of the team and the service to continuously improve patient care, participating in implementation of relevant national standards and frameworks at a local level.
* To complete the required Level 7 MSc academic research elements relevant to the clinical service and or professional practice.
* To remain updated and to ensure clinical practice is researched and evidenced based.
* To actively lead, monitor and evaluate service development by undertaking clinical audit, data collection, investigating research projects.


Person specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse, with degree or equivalent level of experience
* Demonstrate evidence of ability to study at Level 7 (either previous Level 6 or Level 7 study)
* Commitment to studying for any required training needed
* Non-Medical Prescriber or willingness to undertake
* SACT trained or willingness to undertake
* Post -registration qualification in specialist area (haemato‑oncology course)
* Teaching and Assessing Qualification
* Advanced Communication Skills
* Psychological Skills Training Level 2


Experience

* Relevant Clinical Experience within Haematology or will consider an oncology background
* Experience of working within an MDT
* Up to date and evidenced based knowledge of current clinical and professionals issues
* Evidence of working autonomously as well as within a team
* Demonstrates the capacity to assume leadership responsibilities
* Previous NHS Experience
* Participation in Service Development and Implementation of Change
* Experience of developing and undertaking auditExperience of working with patients on systemic anti‑cancer therapies


Knowledge

* Able to analyse data and provide written reports
* Excellent understanding and awareness of confidentiality
* Confidence in own knowledge base and understanding of when to seek guidance
* Knowledge of common treatments used within haematology

* Ability to recognise and analyse complex situations, utilising decision‑making skills to take appropriate action
* Enthusiasm towards sharing knowledge with others in the MDT
* Ability to recognise own limitations, working within scope of practice, acting on feedback from clinical supervisors when required
