Interactive Entertainment Scotland is a new organisation working under the overall direction of Ukie (UK Interactive Entertainment), the trade association that represents and supports Scotland’s, and the wider UKs, thriving video game and interactive entertainment industry. Our small team supports a membership of nearly 700 leading businesses, helping them as they create some of the world’s most exciting games. Our membership spans the length and breadth of the UK's nations and includes prominent international companies working across the interactive entertainment industry, from Sony PlayStation, Electronic Arts, and Microsoft to as well as domestic companies such as 4J Studios, Wardog and Blazing Griffin.

With a changing political environment, impending elections in Holyrood and a changed Government in Westminster we have created a new role to lead on our engagement with officials and policy makers in Scotland – to help advocate for the long term health of the video games and interactive entertainment sector in Scotland across areas such as education, skills, long term growth and business support. This role will engage our members across Scotland to work alongside UK-based colleagues in articulating changes on wider significant issues for the sector in Scotland. We are offering an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, bright and determined policy and public affairs professional to join our team and shape how we engage with the Scottish Government and other external stakeholders in the creative industries and technology sectors on behalf of our members in Scotland.

About you

This role is ideal for an ambitious, self-motivated individual who has experience working autonomously.You will have adept stakeholder engagement skills and have a good knowledge of the workings of the Holyrood and the wider structures that support the devolved Government. You will have good knowledge of or be willing to develop knowledge of policy making and have an appreciation or experience of influencing campaigns.

Ideally you will bring:

* The ability to work accurately with a good eye for detail
* The ability to manage and meet deadlines and competing priorities
* The ability to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders with varied priorities
* A willingness to learn and develop specialist policy knowledge and how it affects the video games sector in Scotland
* Excellent writing skills and the ability to condense complex policy areas into understandable briefings for stakeholders
* Good knowledge of the Holyrood political process and the ability to spot trends and opportunities for engagement for IES and its members

What you’ll be doing

The post holder will help advance IES’ policy work on aspects of devolved policy which impact the games and interactive entertainment industry through:

* Monitoring policy changes and providing in-depth policy analysis, research, and reports for internal stakeholders.
* Relationship building and engagement with IES/Ukie members and wider sector stakeholders, including attendance at internal and external stakeholder meetings and coalition industry groups.
* Lead on any relevant Scottish Government consultation responses, co-ordinating with members and facilitating internal forums for discussions on particular issues – to be supported by the wider Ukie policy team.
* Support in organising events and engagement with policy makers within Holyrood and Scottish Councils to further overall IES goals.
* Leading, with support from the Ukie policy and research teams, on public affairs projects and campaigns according to the IES/Ukie internal strategy and drawing on Ukie’s internal data and external partners where appropriate.
* Promoting IES at external political meetings, and supporting occasional UK wide events including the bi-annual Westminster Games Week.
* Support in raising the profile of IES and its distinct policy priorities through external communications in partnership with the wider Ukie team, and through public scrutiny such as the use of written questions.
* Working with the Cross Party Group (CPG) on the Scottish Games Ecosystem in partnership with other games stakeholders and liaising with its members its members.
* Be responsible for the team administration of internal stakeholder meetings, including sending out invites, taking minutes and preparing relevant material as well as maintaining up to date email lists of all stakeholders.

Relationship Management

* Develop and maintain relationships with games industry member businesses and a wide range of external bodies; including partner organisations, Scottish government officials and other trade bodies.
* Manage key IES internal stakeholder groups – and any relevant various working sub groups.
* Maintain stakeholder engagement trackers and act as a point of contact for external engagement with Parliamentarians, regional politicians and their offices.
* Support the Ukie Head of Policy and Chief Executive in any external engagements in Scotland.
* Support the wider Ukie policy team and wider Senior Management team with other reasonable tasks as required

Qualifications and experience required for this role: Qualified by experience. You don’t need to hold a degree to apply for this role, but experience of working in a policy facing role, public affairs agency or regulatory environment would be advantageous. On-the-job training will be provided via Ukie or external providers where appropriate.

Hours of Work:

* Flexible - Set pattern to be discussed with the successful candidate in relation to the part time nature of this role. Expectation of a regular pattern of hours within a default working week of Monday to Friday – 9.00am to 5.30pm
* Expectation that some evening and weekend work may be required to attend or run IES events as the business requires.

This role profile is not exhaustive; working as part of a small and dynamic team, there will be an opportunity to tailor the role to your interests and ambitions in agreement with the Head of Policy/Chief Executive of Ukie.

There is also the expectation that you will be flexible to help the wider organisation and its other teams in accordance with its strategic priorities where necessary, as directed by the Head of Policy or Chief Executive Ukie where appropriate.

Reports to: Head of Policy and Public Affairs (UK)

Pay: £20,000-£22,500 (pro rata 0.5 of time £40,000-£45,000 FTE)

Discretionary annual bonus scheme. Negotiable for an experienced candidate.
