In this varied and interesting role, you will be part of a small team responsible for the investigation and enforcement of many aspects of environmental pollution, including fly tipping, littering, dog fouling, noise and other nuisances.
A key role for the postholder will be to take lead responsibility for dealing with stray dogs within the district and to address the wide range of enquiries that arise around responsible dog ownership.
You will respond to enquiries from businesses and the public, liaising with partner agencies as required, to investigate and resolve complaints using the most appropriate methods available. Such methods could range from an education program to formal enforcement under the relevant environmental regulations.
The duties of the post holder may also include from time to time the investigation and resolution of concerns from the public relating to matters of public health, pollution, pest control and housing.
You will have a qualification or relevant experience in either environmental health or in another investigatory or regulatory role involving evidence collection and case file production, and you will have an interest in and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the legislation applicable to environmental regulation. Direct experience or confidence in handling dogs, including larger breeds, is essential.
The job is suitable for a wide range of people; relevant training will be provided for the right candidate.No matter what your background is, you will be an effective communicator capable of acting on your own initiative, as well as working effectively within a team and having a proven track record of managing a varied workload.
Any offer of employment will be subject to the successful outcome of DBS check. A driving licence is essential. The post holder will have access to the department vehicle for the collection and transfer of stray dogs, and this vehicle is also available for specific investigation and enforcement tasks as required.
