Job Description:
The Garment Assistant Designer (12-month Fixed Term Contract) will be a creative individual with strong illustrative and organisational skills to support the team in meeting deadlines. You will have exposure to the full design process, including researching trends, identifying competitors, assisting in pulling together the new season's ranges, creating original graphics, tech packs, artwork briefing sheets, and liaising with suppliers to produce products that meet the needs and aspirations of parents worldwide.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
* Support key designer and head of design with range planning and design creation
* Collaborate with the wider design team and external resources
* Report on new directions, developments, and product opportunities for new ranges
* Review global competitors and sources of inspiration; establish strong relationships with Commercial Business Partners
* Understand the demands of the critical path, meet deadlines, and ensure designs are producible
* Support product design within good, better, best price architecture
* Assist with research, trend analysis, and ensure product and colour information aligns with company and market strategies
* Build industry knowledge, including child safety requirements
* Work closely with the technical team to meet Mothercare quality and safety standards
* Collaborate with Merchandising to understand global performance and requirements
* Ensure samples and meeting preparations are completed on time
* Deputise for Designer and Head of Design as needed
Knowledge & Skills
* Creative with strong colour sense and drawing ability, committed to high standards and profitability
* Demonstrates individual design flair aligned with Mothercare’s brand identity
* Excellent presentation and communication skills, confident in presenting themes and ideas
* Advanced in Illustrator and proficient in Photoshop
* Ability to create detailed, accurate design specifications
* High attention to detail, proactive, flexible, and able to work under pressure
* Strong understanding of the global babywear and kidswear markets
