We are recruiting a Utility Surveyor to join a field-based survey team delivering underground utility mapping, drainage and ancillary surveys across the UK & Ireland. The role involves capturing PAS 128–compliant geospatial data using electromagnetic locators, GPR and GNSS equipment, supporting projects ranging from small local surveys to multi-site infrastructure contracts. You will work both independently and as part of survey teams, reporting to Senior Surveyors or Survey Managers, with responsibility for safe data capture, client liaison and accurate delivery of survey outputs. This is a full-time, Monday to Friday (40 hours) position with a mix of field-based work and office processing days. The role is remote, with the majority of work across South Wales, The Midlands and the North West. Why apply? • Work with industry-standard EM locators, GPR and GNSS technology • Deliver PAS 128–compliant utility surveys for major infrastructure and development projects • Clear progression pathway to Senior Surveyor and Survey Manager roles • Structured training and support toward recognised industry qualifications • Monday to Friday working pattern with paid travel time and half-day Fridays • Exposure to a wide variety of sites, clients and technical challenges Utility Surveyor – Job Requirements • Carrying out underground utility surveys using electromagnetic locators, GPR and GNSS equipment • Site mobilisation including reviewing drawings, RAMS and project documentation • Capturing accurate field data in accordance with PAS 128 requirements • Post-processing survey information using AutoCAD, GIS or similar software • Producing clear, client-ready drawings, reports and GIS-ready deliverables • Liaising with clients, site teams and internal project stakeholders • Identifying and escalating health & safety, technical or commercial risks • Supporting delivery of projects within time, cost and quality parameters • Working both independently and within survey teams of varying size • Mentoring junior surveyors as experience and capability develop Skills and Experience Beneficial to This Role • Minimum 2 years’ experience in underground utility surveying or services detection • Practical experience using EM locators and GPR equipment • Good working knowledge of PAS 128 standards and classifications • Experience processing survey data in AutoCAD, GIS or similar platforms • Strong problem-solving and methodical approach to field challenges • Confident written and verbal communication skills • Comfortable working outdoors across varied sites and conditions The Successful Utility Surveyor Must Possess • HNC / Diploma in Surveying or QCF Level 3 in Utility Mapping (or equivalent experience) • Full UK driving licence • Demonstrable understanding of safe systems of work and site risk assessment • A proactive, organised and safety-focused approach • Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams Desirable: • Formal GPR and EM training certificates • Wider CAD and GIS qualifications • IOSH or equivalent health & safety training Health & Safety Please note this role involves: • Working on live construction and infrastructure sites • Use of geophysical and survey equipment • Manual handling of survey equipment • Working outdoors in all weather conditions Health and safety compliance is integral to day-to-day operations, with ongoing training and support provided. Work Pattern & Location This is a 40-hour, Monday–Friday role, predominantly field-based, with office days for processing and reporting.
