Autism Support Assistant, Special Needs School (Brent, NW London)

£500 per week PAYE | Full-time, long-term

We are working with a welcoming and well-resourced special needs school in NW London to appoint an Autism Support Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and helping them thrive in a structured, nurturing learning environment.

The school is easily accessible via public transport and offers a strong staff support network, clear routines, and a genuinely team-led approach to pupil progress.

The role

As an Autism Support Assistant, you will:

* Support pupils with ASC across primary or secondary age ranges (depending on suitability).
* Work 1:1 and in small groups to deliver targeted support.
* Use consistent routines, visual and communication strategies to reduce barriers to learning.
* Support emotional regulation and behaviour for learning, alongside experienced teachers and therapists.
* Help pupils access learning, build independence, and develop social communication skills.
* Contribute to a safe, calm, and structured classroom environment.

We are looking for

This role requires specific ASC experience. We are keen to hear from candidates who have:

* Direct, hands-on experience supporting children or young people with Autism Spectrum Condition, in a school or specialist setting.
* A solid understanding of neurodiversity and the varying profiles within ASC.
* Confidence using strategies such as visual timetables, now and next boards, communication aids, sensory support, or similar.
* A calm, consistent approach and the ability to build trust with pupils who need stability.
* The ability to work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and wider support teams.

Desirable (but not essential):

* Team Teach or similar behaviour support training.
* Experience with non-verbal pupils, PECS, Makaton, or AAC.
* Background in a special needs school, resource base, or ASD provision.

What’s on offer

* £500 per week PAYE.
* Long-term, full-time placement with the potential to become permanent.
* Supportive senior leadership and a clear, well-embedded ASC framework.
* A role where you can make a meaningful impact every day.

If you have specific ASC experience and are looking for a rewarding Autism Support Assistant role in NW London, apply today. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to discuss the school, setting, and start date in more detail.

Please note, all applicants will be subject to safeguarding checks and must hold (or be willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS on the update service.
