About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and driven Geotechnical Director to join our growing team at our Northampton head office. This is a strategic leadership role offering the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of challenging geotechnical projects for a broad client base including house builders, utility providers, local authorities, land agents and private developers.
You will play a key role in technical leadership, client engagement, project delivery, and mentoring of junior staff. The role offers significant scope for progression and involvement in high-profile projects across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical leadership and direction on complex geotechnical projects * Manage and oversee project delivery including quality assurance, technical reporting, and budget control * Develop and maintain strong client relationships, providing expert consultancy and strategic advice * Lead the design and assessment for:
o Slope stability and retaining structures o Earthworks and ground improvement o Basement Impact Assessments (BIA) o Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) design o Geotechnical risk management (GMA, GIRs, GDRs)
* Support business development, bid preparation, and marketing activities * Mentor and develop junior and mid-level geotechnical engineers * Ensure compliance with relevant standards and health & safety policies * Support the Ground Investigation teams with geotechnical advice, support and training
Required Skills and Experience
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline (Master's preferred) * Chartered Engineer (CEng or equivalent) with a recognised professional body (ICE, GeolSoc, etc.) * Significant post-chartership experience in geotechnical consultancy * Strong technical expertise across a wide range of ground engineering topics * Proven track record in managing multidisciplinary projects and client accounts
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Leadership and mentoring capabilities
