Job Purpose
This is a Post-doctoral role in Creative Writing at the School of Critical Studies. The successful candidate will undertake research of international excellence, contribute to knowledge exchange activities related to the discipline, participate in learning and teaching on agreed programmes, and undertake administration and service activities aligned with the School/College’s strategic objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop and progress individual/joint research projects of international standard in the subject area with support from a mentor, as required.
2. Publish high-quality creative and/or critical research, identify potential funding sources, and contribute to or lead funding applications to enhance the research profile of the School and College.
3. Assist in planning, organizing, and delivering teaching on undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses, including responsibilities as a course co-ordinator.
4. Contribute to curriculum development supporting a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment.
5. Participate in examination and assessment processes, providing effective and timely feedback to support student learning.
6. Contribute to the development of theory and practice in the subject area.
7. Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student projects and contribute to the supervision and training of postgraduate research students.
8. Take on administrative or management roles within the subject/School as assigned.
9. Engage in continuing professional development activities.
10. Undertake any other duties as required by the Head of School.
11. Contribute to enhancing the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
* Essential: A PhD or equivalent professional/teaching experience in a related role.
* Broad and/or deep knowledge in creative writing and teaching methods.
* Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
* Research outputs aligned with the School’s research profile.
* Knowledge of policy, practice, procedures, and external awareness.
* Up-to-date knowledge in creative writing, capable of inspiring students and providing pastoral care.
Skills
* Essential: Initiative and ability to contribute independently to research and teaching.
* Organizational skills for managing time and priorities.
Experience
* Essential: Experience in planning work activities within professional guidelines, commitment to open research, and supporting colleagues’ career development.
Desirable
* Teaching across genres of creative writing.
* Experience of teaching in higher education at postgraduate level.
* Experience of administration in higher education.
Terms and Conditions
Salary: Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum. Full-time, open-ended position.
