This is an essential permanently funded clinical post. The band 5 Occupational Therapist (OT) is part of a team of 5 OTs for adult services in Chelsea. It involves managing a complex clinical caseload across wards and outpatients, with responsibilities including clinical input, case load management, service development, education, and supervision of Therapy Assistants. The role also deputizes for the band 6 OT during her absence and is crucial during maternity leave coverage.
Main duties of the job
The Band 5 Occupational Therapist delivers a high-quality, cost-effective occupational therapy service for cancer patients. They serve as a knowledge resource for patients, relatives, and colleagues, organizing therapy activities and collaborating with the multi-professional team to provide educational programs.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Perform complex clinical assessments under supervision, addressing biomechanical, sensory, psychological, cognitive, perceptual, and interpersonal deficits in cancer patients and their families.
* Develop and implement individualized therapeutic rehabilitation programs based on activity analysis and client-centered approaches.
* Organize and lead therapeutic and educational groups for patients and carers.
Person specification
Education/Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy recognized by UK College of Occupational Therapists.
* State Registration with Health & Care Professions Council.
Experience
* Experience working with oncology patients and their families/carers.
* Experience in clinical supervision and appraisal.
* Knowledge of audit, outcomes measurement, and clinical governance principles.
* Completed approved fieldwork supervisor course.
* Accredited wheelchair course.
Skills Abilities/knowledge
* Knowledge of assessment and treatment techniques for oncology and palliative care patients, including physical, cognitive, psychosocial assessments, and symptom management.
* Risk assessment skills for patient and staff safety, including manual handling and discharge planning.
* Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, especially in sensitive situations like delivering bad news.
* Ability to produce professional reports, care plans, assessments, and correspondence.
* Teamwork and teaching abilities, including delivering presentations and education sessions.
* Risk assessment for lone working, responsibility for safety reporting.
* Self-motivated, organized, and able to prioritize effectively.
* Supervisory skills for undergraduate students.
* Proficiency in data entry, report writing, and multimedia presentations.
