Job summary
The purpose of the Sous Chef post is to support the Catering Manager in delivering safe, nutritious, and appetizing meals to patients, staff, and visitors at Harrogate District Hospital. The role ensures high standards of food preparation, hygiene, and kitchen operations are maintained, while also contributing to menu planning, staff supervision, and the delivery of specialist dietary requirements in line with NHS guidelines.

Main duties of the job
1. Assist the Head Chef in menu preparation.
2. Prepare, cook & serve nutritional, balanced and appetizing meals.
3. Provide special diets, taking into account individual preferences & needs.
4. Lead the kitchen staff during the Head Chef`s absence.
5. Guide and supervise the junior kitchen staff during food preparation.
6. Liaise with nursing colleagues to meet patients nutritional & dietary needs.
7. Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen, service areas & dining room.
8. Ensure compliance with health & safety standards and Food Hygiene Regulations.
9. Handle, maintain & store kitchen equipment in accordance with Trust's/HIF procedures.
10. Use chemicals in line with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.
