Develop Your Career in Active Travel!
Suffolk's green access service is recruiting for its new planning team. The team leads the council's response to planning consultations, from minor ones to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs). The new team will build on our successes, including a £2.8m fund to improve green access as construction of Sizewell C nuclear power station begins.
Green access encompasses 5,700km of public rights of way (PRoW), open access, and informal routes that facilitate movement on foot, bicycle, wheelchair, or horseback. It relates to access to green spaces as well as to services, workplaces, and schools, whether via PRoW or the road network. Green access is vital for sustainable transport, health, and wellbeing.
Our vision is to encourage more people to use and enjoy Suffolk's green access network.
Your role and responsibilities
You will support the green access planning team and respond to smaller planning consultations. You will build partnerships and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure green access is preserved amid new developments, prioritising walking, cycling, and wheeling to enhance the PRoW and active travel network.
An essential part of this role involves managing budgets and project databases to track consultations and responses effectively.
We seek someone passionate about improving green access and sustainable travel in Suffolk. You will liaise with council planning teams, developers, and external stakeholders.
This role offers the opportunity to positively impact lives by promoting healthy, active travel options. You should have a strategic outlook to create these opportunities.
You will need
* An understanding of planning law and development impacts on green access and PRoW, with experience in database management and supporting colleagues.
* Strong teamwork and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. A commitment to making walking, cycling, and wheeling the primary modes of travel, on roads and green networks.
Full details of requirements are available in the Job and Person Profile (docx). If you believe you are suitable for this role, even if you do not meet all criteria, we encourage you to apply.
