Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to lead digital transformation at the Oxford Eye Hospital, a large and busy eye unit with approximately, appointments and procedures every year. This is a new role, so you will have the chance to shape it. You’ll be working with a forward-thinking, close-knit team in a department with a strong track record of securing funding and delivering innovative projects.
This is an innovative department with digital projects already in live use. We were an early NHS site for automated conversational AI, with over, fully autonomous conversations with cataract surgery patients. Ophthalmology led the Trust-wide implementation of Concentric digital consent and recently won Oxford Hospitals Charity funding to develop a digital avatar for patient information videos. You’ll join a strong team of imaging specialists, managers, and clinical digital leads, with infrastructure and momentum already in place.
Main duties of the job
You’ll translate clinical requirements into technical specs, set realistic timelines, and be the bridge between clinical and IT teams. Current projects include the next phase of our Electronic Medical Record (Medsight), improving how patient information flows to patients and GPs, and electronic patient letters. Beyond these, you’ll help the department keep pace with growing digital demands and the increasing use of AI. This role offers real autonomy and the chance to make a tangible difference to how care is delivered.
