About the Role
In 2024, Surrey County Council launched the Intensive Family Support Service to provide early help for families with interconnected needs.
Working with local partners, our goal is timely support to prevent escalation and statutory intervention. We aim for consistent, well-coordinated support, avoiding families being 'passed around' multiple providers.
Family Intervention Workers work alongside Social Workers in assessment teams to support families early. They will work closely with assessment colleagues to provide rapid support to newly referred families.
Typical Responsibilities:
* Supporting families through strengths-based, trauma-informed approaches, including meetings, visits, and group-work
* Coordinating support services and professionals to form an effective Team Around the Family
* Maintaining positive contact, balancing hands-on support with coordination, ensuring support is consistent and meaningful
This role offers diverse social care experience, with positive feedback from Ofsted about our well-trained, committed staff who feel valued and proud to work in Surrey.
Shortlisting Criteria
The application includes 4 questions about your experience and understanding, plus a CV. You are not required to submit a personal statement.
To be shortlisted, your CV and answers should demonstrate:
* Understanding of legislation and issues related to supporting vulnerable children and families or willingness to learn
* Ability to manage a caseload and seek guidance when needed
* Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate reports
* Effective communication and relationship-building skills
* Ability to work flexibly as part of a team
You must have a valid UK driving licence, access to a vehicle, and be willing to travel across Surrey. Reasonable adjustments will be made for applicants with disabilities or health conditions.
We welcome local applicants with diverse family experience. Full training will be provided. If interested, we look forward to your application.
