Senior Diagnostic Support Technician – Automotive Electronics
Location: Heanor, Derbyshire
Salary: £40,000–£45,000
Contract: Permanent
We're working with a specialist automotive electronics business based in Heanor, Derbyshire, supporting trade garages and workshops across the UK. They are looking to recruit a Senior Diagnostic Support Technician to join their technical support team, providing expert-level remote diagnostics and fault-finding assistance.
This role is ideal for an experienced Master Technician or Diagnostic Technician looking to move off the tools, or for someone already working in a technical support, helpline, or remote diagnostics environment.
The Role
This is a phone-based technical role focused on remote diagnosis and problem solving. You'll use your in-depth automotive knowledge to identify root causes of complex vehicle faults and guide workshops towards effective repair solutions. You'll work closely with internal engineering and technical teams to ensure a high standard of support is delivered on every case.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert remote technical support to trade garages and workshop technicians
* Diagnose complex vehicle faults using structured questioning and technical reasoning
* Interpret fault codes, live data and diagnostic reports to identify root causes
* Collaborate with internal technical and engineering teams to resolve issues efficiently
* Maintain accurate records of diagnostic cases and technical findings
* Communicate clearly, confidently and professionally with customers
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Minimum of 5 years' experience within the automotive industry
* Background as a Diagnostic Technician, Technical Support Specialist, Technical Helpline Advisor, Field Technical Expert or Warranty Diagnostics professional
* Strong understanding of modern vehicle electronics, ECUs and fault-finding techniques
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
* Confident communicator with a customer-focused mindset
* Comfortable working in a phone-based, team-oriented technical environment
* Passion for helping others resolve complex technical issues
