Acquisitions Project Assistant

Permanent position at a pay grade of £28,598 to £34,434 per annum, consultation grade under the Pay Equity Review, working 36.5 hours per week.

Birmingham City Council is seeking a highly organised and motivated Acquisitions Project Assistant to support the delivery of its residential acquisitions programme. The Council launched its Acquisitions Strategy in November 2025, playing a vital role in securing a greater number of affordable housing in the city. This includes purchasing new build homes, large blocks and street properties to meet the needs of families in Birmingham on a low income. The types of homes we bring into the portfolio play a big part in determining what type of landlord the Council will be.

We are looking for someone who is genuinely resident focused and understands the role social housing plays in re‑building people's lives. Ideally, the successful candidate will have a keen interest in property, finance or economics. We hope to identify a candidate that has commercial awareness and ensures properties brought into the portfolio are value for money and right for the organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in helping the Council expand its housing portfolio. You will support project managers in coordinating acquisitions activity across the city, ensuring that key milestones are achieved and new assets are brought forward efficiently and effectively.

This is a hybrid role, and on‑site attendance is subject to service need.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide project support to ensure property acquisitions are delivered in line with agreed targets.
* Coordinate and manage project milestones, ensuring acquisitions are completed on time and in line with funding requirements.
* Contribute to the development of business cases and funding bids.
* Monitor and report on project spend against agreed budgets.
* Work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure delivery outcomes are met.
* Support governance processes for residential acquisitions.
* Assist with procurement processes for external consultants and service providers.
* Track project plans to ensure assets are delivered within agreed timelines.
* Contribute to reports for senior officers and elected members.
* Liaise with commercial partners and stakeholders to identify suitable acquisition opportunities.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

Experience

* Experience providing project support within a complex environment.
* Experience of collating and reporting on complex information.
* Experience working with both public and private sector organisations.
* An understanding of local government and/or residential acquisitions.

Skills & Abilities

* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
* Ability to analyse complex data and present it clearly.
* Effective communication skills, including producing reports and presentations.
* Ability to build productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
* Confidence in responding to enquiries from stakeholders, including elected members.
* Ability to work collaboratively with partners and funding bodies to support delivery.
