Job Description

We are currently seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join our vibrant and multidisciplinary team at the Institute of Mental Health, University of Nottingham. The role holder will undertake supervised qualitative research on a new project investigating digital inequalities and dementia prevention in people with dementia and carers from underserved groups. This project is linked with the DETERMIND project and funded by the NIHR MindTech MedTech Co‑operative.

You will work directly with the Principal Investigators, Dr Esther Loseto‑Gerritzen and Dr Magdalena Opazo Breton, and co‑investigator Dr Ben Hicks, to support the project. You will work within a collaborative team, supporting participant recruitment, scheduling and conducting interviews, managing and analysing data, and writing a lay summary report and academic publication. You will also support identifying new areas of research and extend your publication and research income portfolio.

Responsibilities

* Recruit participants, manage scheduling and conduct interviews.
* Manage and analyse qualitative data.
* Write lay summary reports and academic publications.
* Support identifying new research areas.

Qualifications

* A degree or equivalent in Psychology, Health Sciences or a related field.
* Experience of qualitative research methodologies and techniques.
* Excellent written and interpersonal skills.
* Experience of research with vulnerable groups, including adults with mental health conditions or cognitive difficulties.
* Ability to build relationships and collaborate with others.
* Ideally suited for a person wishing to pursue a PhD or DClinPsy.

Other Information

This is a full time (36.25 hours) fixed‑term post for 12 months. Applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part‑time (minimum 29 hours per week). There is flexibility to discuss work patterns and hybrid/remote working. Requests for secondment from internal candidates will be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

This role will involve contact with people with dementia and their families; therefore the post holder will be required to obtain satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), in line with the University’s code of research conduct and research ethics.

The Institute of Mental Health and MindTech are committed to ensuring that the perspectives of those with lived experience are at the heart of everything we do, and we welcome applications from people with personal lived experience of mental health problems.

What We Offer

* A friendly, diverse, and supportive working environment.
* A hybrid working arrangement with the blended approach of home and office working each week.
* Generous holiday entitlement of 30 days (or pro‑rata) plus standard bank holidays and five university closure days including closure between Christmas and New Year.
* Our reward scheme grants bonuses of numerous values for excellent work.
* We are committed to staff development through the provision of training, continued support, and career progression opportunities.
