Job Title : Senior Quantity Surveyor Location : Southampton, Hampshire Salary : £50,000 - £66,000 per annum Company Car/Allowance Comprehensive Package Work Arrangement : Hybrid Working Join a leading main contractor, a respected name in the UK infrastructure sector, as a Senior Quantity Surveyor based in their Southampton office. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of the commercial management for significant water infrastructure projects across Hampshire, contributing directly to their successful delivery. You will play a key role within the commercial team, focusing on projects such as water storage facilities, wastewater treatment works, and pumping stations with contract values ranging from £10m to £50m. Role & Responsibilities Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the end-to-end commercial management of assigned projects. Key duties include: Commercial Strategy: Developing and implementing robust commercial plans to maximise project profitability and mitigate risks. Contract Administration (NEC): Managing contractual obligations and ensuring compliance, particularly under NEC forms of contract. Measurement & Valuation: Undertaking accurate measurement and valuation of works for applications for payment, variations, and final account negotiations. Claims Management: Preparing, submitting, and negotiating claims for delay, disruption, loss, and/or expense where necessary. Subcontractor Management: Managing the procurement, negotiation, administration, and final accounting of subcontractors. Cost Control & Reporting: Implementing effective cost control measures, providing accurate forecasting, and contributing to financial reporting. Team Collaboration: Providing expert commercial and contractual advice and support to estimating, design, procurement, and project delivery teams. Stakeholder Management: Liaising effectively with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners. Candidate Requirements Experience: Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor, ideally within a main contracting environment. Sector Background: Demonstrable experience working on projects within the infrastructure, utilities, or civil engineering sectors. Specific experience in the water sector (wastewater/clean water) is highly advantageous. Contract Knowledge: Strong working knowledge and practical application of NEC forms of contract is essential. Core Skills: Proficient in measurement, valuation, cost control, subcontractor management, and final accounts. Qualifications: A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial/construction field is preferred (or equivalent vocational experience). RICS or CICES membership (or working towards) is desirable. Attributes: Commercially astute, strong negotiator, excellent communication skills, analytical mindset, and ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
