Job Summary
We are looking for a Primary Care Nurse to work on the healthcare team at HMP Preston, a category B prison in Preston. The role involves unscheduled care, emergency response, and patient reception.
HMP Preston is a remand male prison for adults aged 18+ with a capacity of 680.
Working Hours & Schedule
The position is full time, Monday – Sunday service.
* 37.5 hours per week
* Shifts between 7:30 am – 8:30 pm
* Every other weekend
* 2‑week rolling rota
Salary
Annual salary range: £34,428 to £41,659 per FTE, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Work within a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver a nurse‑led service and prevent hospital admissions.
* Undertake medication rounds, dispense controlled medication, attend emergency response situations, assess patients, and undertake reception screening.
* Deliver nurse‑led clinics to patient groups whilst supported by the multi‑disciplinary team.
* Provide evidence‑based care, seeking out, listening to, and acting on patient feedback.
* Deliver non‑judgemental care that makes a real difference.
* Forge strong links with partners and stakeholders.
* Promote best practice, clinical supervision, evidence‑based care, and continuous quality improvement.
* Share knowledge, skills, and expertise to ensure safe care, building strong multi‑disciplinary teams.

Qualifications & Experience
* Registered nurse (Adult) – NMC.
* Evidence of continued professional development.
* Understanding of multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working.
* A non‑judgemental and compassionate approach.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Experience in hospital, community, or prison environment (desirable).
Legal & Security Requirements
* Legal right to work in the UK.
* Offers of employment subject to additional vetting and security checks.
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required (ROE 1975).
* Current UK professional registration required.
