CNC Machinist (Heavy Engineering)
Location: Wakefield
Salary: £17-£18 per hour
Shift: Days – early Friday finish (37 hour week)
Metalis are working with a well‑established engineering and manufacturing business in Wakefield who are looking to add an experienced CNC Machinist to their Machining team.
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist with experience operating CNC and manual machines within a heavy engineering environment. Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, you will be responsible for producing high‑quality components in line with manufacturing routes, engineering drawings, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
* Operate CNC Milling and manual machines safely and efficiently.
* Ensure machining operations are completed in line with approved manufacturing routes and quality standards.
* Interpret engineering drawings and geometrical tolerances accurately.
* Use manual measuring equipment to inspect and verify component quality.
* Carry out routine machine checks and ensure equipment is maintained and lubricated appropriately.
* Report defective or out‑of‑calibration measuring equipment.
* Use lifting and transportation equipment safely and correctly.
Who Would Be Suitable
* Apprentice‑trained Mechanical Engineer.
* Previous experience operating CNC Milling machines within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
* Strong understanding of engineering drawings and geometrical tolerances.
* Knowledge of CNC programming.
* Ability to use manual measuring equipment confidently.
Ideal Background
* Experience operating horizontal machining centres with Fanuc controls.
* Experience working with Heidenhain controls.
* Background within heavy engineering manufacturing.
* Time‑served machinist with CNC programming knowledge.
* Experience producing large or complex engineered components.

* Hours: 8 am to 4 30 pm, Monday to Thursday, with half an hour lunch break; 8 am to 1 pm Friday
