National Highways have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Drainage Engineer to join our Operations directorate in the North West region. The Senior Engineer will lead and coordinate activities related to asset needs identification and develop early solutions for the asset class in scope, ensuring adherence to asset policies and standards. The role involves leading drainage renewal schemes/projects.
The position may require occasional unsociable hours and will be based in Manchester, Warrington, Penrith, or Preston, with a balance of remote and office work.
Please note: You must be able to drive as part of your role, with no more than 3 penalty points, both for consideration and during employment.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead development of early solutions for drainage renewals and improvements, including document compilation, evidence gathering, and options analysis, considering new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs.
2. Assist Project Managers in delivering early solutions and plans, liaising with relevant teams to resolve issues.
3. Identify and prepare briefs for survey works supporting asset improvement and renewal.
4. Provide technical support to Project Managers, including materials approvals, contractor compliance vetting, site inspections, and review of Health and Safety Files.
5. Review third-party designs to ensure compliance with standards, design briefs, and Maintenance requirements.
About you:
* Chartered or Incorporated Engineer, member of a relevant professional body, with appropriate experience.
* Degree or HND in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
* Experience in promoting drainage renewal schemes/projects, with budget management skills.
* Knowledge of DMRB standards and their application in highway infrastructure and drainage design, with good understanding of CDM 2015.
* Experience collaborating with internal/external design teams, contractors, local authorities, and stakeholders.
