The Role of the Automation Engineer
This is a hands-on Automation Engineer position within a high-volume FMCG manufacturing environment. You will take ownership of site automation systems, supporting, improving and future-proofing PLC-controlled production lines to maximise reliability, efficiency and food safety compliance.
You'll work closely with engineering, production and continuous improvement teams and play a key role in bringing automation capability in-house, with clear scope to progress into leading an automation team as the site continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities for the Automation Engineer
Maintain and fault-find PLC-controlled systems
Modify and Program Allan Bradley & Siemen PLCs
Support HMI and SCADA systems across site
Diagnose and resolve I/O and industrial network issues
Assist with commissioning of new machinery and automation upgrades
Work with OEMs and system integrators on capital and improvement projects
Ensure compliance with food safety, quality and site standards
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and production
Essential Experience & Skills for the Automation Engineer
Proven PLC fault-finding and modification experience (programming preferred)
Strong experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs
Background in manufacturing / factory environments (UK experience essential)
Understanding of control systems, breakdown response and commissioning
Engineering qualification (electrical, automation or controls)
