MSK and FCP Physiotherapist (1 FTE)
Full Time, Permanent
Salary: £40,871 - £50,927 per annum
Location: Bournemouth – Integrated Rehabilitation Centre & Primary Care Network Practices
Health Sciences University (HSU: formerly AECC University College) is a specialist health sciences institution dedicated to excellent education, clinical care and applied research.
Following the recent approval of our new university title HSU in July 2024 and the merger of the University College of Osteopathy into the HSU family from 1st August 2024, the institution is in a phase of growth and transformation across our campuses in Bournemouth and central London.
We are highly values-driven, inspired by our mission to 'create a healthier society through education, research and clinical care' with highly dedicated and capable staff and students working together within a caring and inclusive community. We are part-way through the delivery of our Strategic Plan, entitled Fit for the Future, which we will refresh in the coming weeks to reflect recent institutional changes.
HSU delivers a diverse and growing portfolio of pre- and post-registration academic provision and research in allied health and related disciplines, and substantial CQC-registered clinical and imaging services delivering high quality care for our staff, students and local communities. These facilities create a unique offering in higher education for our students to gain valuable practice learning experience onsite, to support local and regional NHS partners, and provide a data-rich research environment for our students, staff and partners.
Partnership working sits at the heart of what we do as an agile and collaborative higher education provider and clinical provider, responding to the workforce, educational and clinical needs of our external stakeholders, and supporting our communities as an established anchor institution. As we continue to develop in Dorset and London, it is imperative that we develop a more strategically informed approach to partnership working as a multi-professional centre of excellence for healthcare education, clinical care and research locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
We provide a vibrant and positive inter-professional learning and practice environment, within a caring and inclusive community.
About the role
HSU Clinical Services have been delivering high-quality musculoskeletal (MSK) rehabilitation at the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre (IRC) for the past three years. We're now looking for a motivated and forward-thinking physiotherapist to join us in a unique split post, combining:
* MSK Rehabilitation in our modern, fully equipped IRC (including NHS and insurer-referred patients)
* First Contact Physiotherapy (FCP) within NHS primary care, in partnership with Bournemouth East Collaborative Primary Care Network
* Educational Leadership, co-delivering our innovative MSK and leadership student placement programme with the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist, using a novel CLiP model of placement delivery in collaboration with NHS partners
This is a truly varied role, with time split between our state-of-the-art Integrated Rehabilitation Centre — delivering expert assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based rehabilitation with access to advanced MSK interventions — and our First Contact Physiotherapy service, where you'll provide high-quality, person-centred assessment and management within primary care.
Beyond your clinical caseload, you'll play a role in shaping the future of physiotherapy, co-leading our innovative MSK and leadership student placement programme. Delivered through a novel CLiP model, this placement offers students a rare chance to develop both clinical and leadership skills across primary and secondary care settings.
This role is supported by consultant-level AHP leadership, with access to imaging, injection therapy, and specialist input from Radiology, Orthopaedics, and Pain Management consultants. We are committed to your development, offering regular clinical supervision, structured training, and ongoing opportunities for CPD.
This is a unique opportunity to experience the entire MSK pathway — from first contact to advanced rehabilitation — while making a tangible impact on patient outcomes and the growth of future physiotherapists.
Why Work with Us?
* Be part of established MSK and FCP teams, working alongside GPs, imaging specialists, consultants, and insurers.
* Access to advanced rehab facilities, including an Alter G treadmill, ultrasound-guided interventions, and shockwave therapy.
* Deliver truly person-centred care, with seamless pathways into orthopaedics, imaging, and specialist services.
* Manage a varied caseload including NHS referrals, insurer-funded patients, and PCN-based first contact patients.
* Play a leading role in education and leadership, supporting the delivery of our innovative MSK and leadership student placement programme.
* Consultant-led support with access to imaging, specialist services, and CPD opportunities.
* Join a supportive, forward-thinking service with opportunities for career progression, service innovation, and advanced clinical practice.
About the person
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced specialist physiotherapist to join our well-established MSK and First Contact services. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years post-registration experience, including at least 3 years in musculoskeletal practice, and be a fully qualified First Contact Practitioner who has completed the FCP roadmap to practice — preferably with injection and/or prescribing rights.
You will be confident working independently while also thriving as part of a progressive, multi-disciplinary team. This is a unique specialist clinical role, offering the chance to shape services to the needs of patients, students, and local health systems. You will also play a key role in supervising and supporting students, fostering their clinical learning and leadership development within our placement programme.
A commitment to person-centred rehabilitation is central to this role, and we are looking for someone who can demonstrate these principles with energy, creativity, and clinical leadership.
