Overview

We are seeking an ECU Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.


Responsibilities

* Provide strategic leadership for the way we manage financial investigations, ensuring compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Lead two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, including mentoring, performance management and work delivery.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) to influence at senior levels and align Environment Agency priorities with enforcement partners.
* Support the wider organisation in continually improving practices, sharing lessons learned, and contributing to changes in technical documentation; advise enforcement officers nationwide.
* Oversee the ECU teams (Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, Crime Analysts) within a nationally dispersed unit handling serious and complex criminality.
* Travel across the country for meetings and operational duties; incident response may be required and could attract additional pay.


Experience/Skills

* Exceptional leadership skills, with experience leading a dispersed team; strong understanding of financial investigations and POCA.
* Experience in: working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication including feedback delivery, performance management and relationship-building with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritise a varied workload and identify areas for improvement; lead changes to working practices.
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it.


Contact and additional information

This is a hybrid working role with home and office presence. Travel across the country for meetings and operations is required. Incident response is a central part of the role, with potential additional payment. Training and workplace adjustments are available.
