Cytosponge Clinical Nurse Specialist

To support and develop the management of UHNM's Cytosponge Service. To work with all members of the gastroenterology department to deliver cytosponge to patients on the symptomatic pathway with routine reflux and for patients on the planned waiting list for Barrett's oesophagus surveillance.
Responsibilities
* Support and develop the management of UHNM's Cytosponge Service, working with all members of the gastroenterology department to deliver cytosponge to symptomatic reflux patients and those on the Barrett's surveillance waiting list.
* Triage patients to ensure they are clinically suitable for capsule sponge procedures and meet the criteria.
* Assess, plan and deliver the Cytosponge care and undertake capsule sponge procedures in accordance with hospital SOPs.
* Provide clinic and results follow up and management.
* Act as an autonomous practitioner and work with the NHS England pilot team to gather and disseminate up-to-date guidelines on Cytosponge.
* Enable patients to make informed consent decisions about their care and understand the rationale of the investigations and treatment pathway.
* Organise pre‑assessment clinics via telephone and assess suitability of patients.
* Manage the booking diary to ensure timely patient appointments.
* Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst coordinating the patient journey and diagnostic services (especially radiology and endoscopy).
* Ensure that the procedures and policies are understood and adhered to by all staff.
* Ensure patients are seen and their procedures carried out within the agreed timeframe, streamlining the service throughout the screening process.
* Use computer software to check in and review reports and to maintain accurate nursing records.
* Organise necessary patient information leaflets and perform audits related to practice.
* Be responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication.
* Be available for patients via phone and arrange admission/assessment if needed.
* Check stock of consumables and maintain Cytosponge system service agreement.
* Facilitate safe discharge planning and ensure safe information and follow‑up using specialist knowledge of endoscopic procedures.
* During less busy periods, offer support in the endoscopy unit as agreed with the Endoscopy manager.
Qualifications
* Diploma or degree.
Skills
* Ability to work independently and autonomously.
* Experience in running clinics.

£39,959 to £48,117 per annum, pro rata.
