Job overview

Hi I'm Michelle, Senior Pharmacist Manager and we are looking for a passionate and dynamic pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Clinical Trials team, as Lead Pharmacists in the Clinical Trials Pharmacy department.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Trials Pharmacist (Band a) to lead and support the pharmacy aspects of clinical trials across all divisions. This pivotal role combines advanced clinical trial pharmacy expertise with strategic and operational leadership, contributing directly to the success of Trust and Oxford University-led research.

You will be responsible for the reviewing of in-house documentation, oversight of investigational medicinal product (IMP) supply and storage, and ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and MHRA standards.

In addition to clinical responsibilities, the post holder will play a key role in managing pharmacy operations within trials, including line management of staff, delegation of authority, and coordination of multidisciplinary resources. This is an excellent opportunity for a pharmacist with strong decision-making, organisational, and communication skills to integrate leadership and project management into their clinical practice.

The role also offers hands-on experience in aseptic preparation of IMPs within our clinical trials aseptic unit and ATMP Unit, supporting the delivery of high-quality, innovative treatments.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of this role are:

1. To provide support to the Head of Clinical Trials in order to provide an efficient service for all aspects of pharmacy based clinical trials and promote the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a centre of excellence for Research and Development.
2. To work with the Clinical Trials team to strategically plan and manage the workload for the clinical trials that are aseptically prepared by the Partnership Organisation.
3. To work with the Head of Clinical Trials to strategically plan and manage the workload for all clinical trials based across all four sites.
4. To provide specialised advice to Researchers related to Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) and associated products during development of clinical trial protocols and advice and information regarding Clinical Trial Authorisation (CTA) applications.
5. To deputise for the Head of Clinical Trials as appropriate.
6. To ensure the safe and effective management and use of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) on all sites within the Trust and it’s research partners in accordance with relevant regulations (including ICH/GCP, EU Directive //EC, FDA, GMP).
7. To be an active member of the pharmacy department and in the specialist area/Directorate team, and ensure continuous two-way exchange of information to maintain high standards of medicines use within the Trust.
