Overview

We are looking for a Salaried GP for 4‑6 sessions a week, working in both Priory Medical Group and our PCN evening Extended Access service. Responsibilities

The salaried GP will:

* Provide medical care and services to the practice population, managing a clinical caseload and addressing a diverse range of health needs.
* Conduct surgery and telephone consultations, home visits and administer medications, including hospital discharge and medication changes.
* Perform administrative duties, comply with practice contracts (GMS/PMS/enhanced services), and handle education and training of junior and trainee clinical staff.
* Prepare for and participate in clinical governance activities, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Support the practice by attending meetings, contributing to teaching, and maintaining records for audit and contractual compliance.

Key clinical tasks include:

* Caring for patients in accordance with evidence‑based medicine and national guidelines.
* Conducting patient consultations during appointment hours and undertaking duty and out‑of‑hours rotations.
* Triage patients presenting in person or by telephone, conduct appropriate assessments, and prescribe or refer as required.
* Managing long‑term conditions, complex problems, and promoting healthy living strategies.
* Performing patient testing and screening, and making autonomous clinical decisions.

Key non‑clinical responsibilities:

* Process medical reports, referrals and correspondence; maintain administrative records and data for audit.
* Allocate timely, clear computer‑based records of consultations, and support the practice’s protected learning time.
* Participate in external meetings, contribute to training of clinical staff, and maintain an up‑to‑date portfolio.

Professional development:

* Comply with GMC Code of Conduct; prepare for annual appraisals and revalidation.
* Act as mentor and role model for students and junior staff.
* Keep up to date with current evidence‑based approaches and continue training to meet statutory and practice learning needs.

About us

We are a friendly, well‑organised practice with an increasing patient list of 15,500 patients across three primary sites: North Shields, Hadrian Park and Tynemouth. We host GP registrars, F2 doctors, medical and nursing students, and are part of a PCN that delivers an extended access service from the ShieldsHealth Hub.

The clinical team includes 7 GP partners, 6 salaried GPs, a physician associate, a paramedic, a trainee advanced practitioner, 5 practice nurses, 7 HCAs, a GP assistant, 4 pharmacists, 5 pharmacy technicians, a FCP, a mental health practitioner and a social prescribing link worker. Our CQC rating is good and we have high levels of QOF achievement.


Qualifications

* MBBS (or equivalent) and full GMC registration.
* Licence to practise without restrictions; evidence of ongoing CPD and appraisal.
* Right to work in the UK.


Experience

* Completion of GP specialty training (or equivalent) and experience in UK general practice.
* Ability to manage a full range of primary‑care presentations and use electronic clinical systems (e.g., SystmOne).
* Previous salaried GP or partner experience; multidisciplinary team working; training or mentoring experience; familiarity with QOF, enhanced services or PCN work.


Communication & Interpersonal Skills

* Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to build rapport, demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and clarity.
* Experience working with diverse or vulnerable populations.
* Strong team‑working skills.


Clinical Skills & Knowledge

* Safe, evidence‑based clinical decision‑making.
* Competence in chronic disease management and managing acute, complex, and multimorbid patients.
* Knowledge of NHS systems, referral pathways, safeguarding, clinical governance and audits.
* Special clinical interests (e.g., women's health, MSK, mental health) welcomed.


Personal Attributes

* Ability to work under pressure, manage time, and a commitment to patient‑centred care.
* Willingness to engage in appraisal, revalidation and quality improvement initiatives.
