Consultant Rheumatologist – UK Ministry of Defence
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Consultant Rheumatologist to deliver high‑standard outpatient Rheumatology care within the Defence Rheumatology Service (DRS) at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC). The role supports a multidisciplinary team of Defence physicians, Specialist Nurses and Allied Health Professionals, located at Stanford Hall tri‑service rehabilitation centre.
This is a full‑time position (40 hours per week) that requires sound clinical judgement, the ability to cope under pressure and a collaborative approach with wider Defence medical teams.

Main duties of the job
The DMRC provides inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation for Service Personnel with musculoskeletal and neurological injuries related to sports, training, operational activities or other trauma. Care is centred around timely outpatient treatment and intensive, residential, group‑based rehabilitation led by consultant‑led multi‑disciplinary teams. DMRC is the only site offering Defence Rheumatology Services and accepts referrals for any Service Personnel in the UK military with rheumatological concerns. Caseloads include complex conditions traditionally managed in the NHS as well as routine inflammatory and non‑inflammatory illnesses.
Duties and responsibilities
* Attend and lead Rheumatology clinics and review clinics as per individual job plan.
* Provide clinical leadership to deliver a high‑quality service and promote evidence‑based practice aligned with relevant guidelines.
* Lead and support a team of highly skilled Rheumatology Specialist Nurses and Allied Health Professionals in delivering an occupationally focused Rheumatology and Rehabilitation service.
* Coordinate surgical, medical, rehabilitation, psychological and social care to provide a patient‑centred, integrated biopsychosocial model of care.
* Collaborate closely with the Civilian Service Manager or Officer in Command – Force Regeneration, acting as operational team lead.
* Supervise and train junior civilian and military medical colleagues, including audit and quality improvement projects (QIPs).
