Overview
The role of Commissioning Mechanical Test Engineer - Combat Systems is to ensure critical submarine systems are tested, calibrated, and commissioned to the highest standards. This hands‑on, technically engaging role supports national defence by solving engineering challenges and collaborating across disciplines to deliver world‑class naval assets.
Responsibilities
* Conduct mechanical testing, calibration, and commissioning of submarine systems
* Support the Senior Test Engineer to optimise team performance and resource allocation
* Apply safety, quality, and environmental standards across all commissioning activities
* Review engineering documentation and contribute to cross‑functional problem solving
* Collaborate with contractors and internal teams to manage risks and meet commissioning goals
This role is full‑time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday and is based on site at HMNB Clyde Faslane.
Essential Experience
* Proven experience in mechanical commissioning and testing
* Ability to work autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams
* Strong understanding of safety and quality protocols in engineering environments
* Experience interpreting technical documentation and resolving engineering issues
* Comfortable engaging with internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications
* Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or
* HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent with relevant experience)#
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
