Technical Advisor – Monitoring and Data Systems Team

The Monitoring Data & Systems Team (MDS) manages important environmental monitoring systems and datasets. You will join a multi‑disciplinary team supporting and learning from colleagues while analysing and improving the data that underpins our work. The Technical Advisor supports these systems, provides user support, and helps keep datasets current.
In this role you will work mainly with Water Quality systems and data, but you will also be expected to support other systems and data as required. You will work closely with team members and can expect to be involved in the following:
* Set up and manage users
* Support users and resolve issues, especially during the transition to My Environment
* Update, improve and maintain datasets
* Respond to internal and external data requests
* Support system improvement and upgrade projects

Experience/skills required
* Experience working with large, complex datasets
* Willingness to develop and learn new technical skills and apply them across monitoring data and systems
* Motivated, organised, friendly, and helpful with an eye for detail; comfortable working in a dispersed team environment
* Proactive and enjoys solving problems
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences
* Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, deliver through others, and provide excellent customer service
Other desirable experience/skills
* Experience using and managing environmental monitoring data systems
* Experience with PowerBI, Access, Excel, Python, SharePoint Online, and R
* Working knowledge of water quality monitoring
Contact and additional information
Work location is flexible, but you must have a base at one of our offices across England and maintain a presence there. We offer hybrid home/office working; some travel is expected for meetings.
We expect to hold interviews via MS Teams towards the end of December / beginning of January. Interview dates will be confirmed for candidates invited to interview.
