Job Title: Part-Time Accountant Hours: Part-time (approx. 2–3 days per week / flexible for the right person) The Opportunity I’m working with an established, independent insurance brokerage close to Telford who are looking to appoint a Part-Time Accountant to take ownership of their day-to-day finance function. This is a hands-on, stand-alone role that would suit someone who’s comfortable working in an SME environment, happy to “roll their sleeves up” with the transactional work, but also confident producing management accounts and supporting the Directors with insight and reporting. Key Responsibilities: Finance & Reporting * Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cashflow * Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded * Produce regular financial reports for the Directors, highlighting trends, risks and opportunities * Assist with budgeting and periodic cashflow forecasting Day-to-Day Accounts * Oversee sales and purchase ledgers – processing invoices, allocating payments and handling supplier queries * Complete bank reconciliations and reconcile key control accounts * Process staff expenses and credit card reconciliations * Monitor cashflow and flag any issues early Compliance & Controls * Prepare and submit VAT returns * Liaise with external accountants for year-end accounts and corporation tax * Ensure financial processes and records meet HMRC requirements and support FCA compliance for an insurance brokerage * Maintain and improve financial controls, policies and procedures Payroll / HR Finance Support (as required) * Liaise with the external payroll provider to ensure accurate and timely payroll * Maintain records relating to pensions, benefits and other employee-related costs Essential: * AAT qualified or QBE (qualified by experience); ACCA/CIMA part-qualified also considered * Proven experience in an SME or professional services environment * Strong bookkeeping and management accounts experience * Confident user of accounting software (e.g. Xero, Sage or QuickBooks) and Excel * High attention to detail, accurate and well organised * Comfortable working autonomously and managing your own workload Desirable: * Experience within insurance, financial services or another regulated environment * Experience as a stand-alone finance person / “number one in finance” in a smaller business What’s on Offer: * Part-time role (c. 2–3 days per week) with some flexibility around days and hours * Competitive pro-rata salary, depending on experience * Opportunity to shape and own the finance function for a growing business * Friendly, close-knit team environment
