We have an exciting opportunity for a hardworking, enthusiastic and flexible individual to join our medical practice.

We are looking for someone ideally with experience of working as a Phlebotomist within a GP Practice. You must have phlebotomy skills with a minimum of oneyears experience as an essential skill, if no GP Practice experience we canoffer full training.

You will be working alongside our nursing team and our existing highlyexperienced HCA.

Working hours Tuesday - Friday 8.30am - 2.00pm


Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role will be to assist the nursing team. You would be expected to carry out the following duties along with additional duties as required by the team.

We are a small friendly semi-rural practice located in Broseley Shropshire with 4600 patients. We strive to provided the best service to our patients.

You would be joining a well established, friendly and supportive team, who will assist your development and training.


Job responsibilities

The postholder will work as a member of the Health Care Team offeringdirected treatments to meet the needs of patients under indirect supervision ofthe Registered Practice Nurse and or General Practitioner.

Main duties and responsibilities:

1) Clinical

To provide high quality patient care

To work as a supervised member of the health care team, performingdelegated nursing duties, for example:

Venepuncture

Injections ie, Flu

Urine testing

Blood pressure monitoring

Any other duties assigned to this role

Identified areas for Training will also be provided

Please note this list is not exhaustive.

Ensure that the care given meets the requirements of local and nationalguidelines, policies and standards including the Quality Outcome Framework(QoF)

Trained in Basic Life Support.

Promote & participate in maintaining a safe comfortable &therapeutic environment.

Involved in team discussions to ensure best practice

Use appropriate infection control procedures andmaintain work areas in each clinical room so that they are clean, safe and freefrom hazards reporting of any potential risks identified

2) Administration

To maintain accurate records and data on Treatment Room activities in atimely fashion using EMIS clinical system.

To work as an effective team member and promote a multi-agencycollaborative approach to health care.

Maintain the established reporting documentation and communicationsystem to ensure efficient evaluation and monitoring.

Report and record all clinical incidents to Practice Manager.

Maintain and ensure the effective use of clinical stock levels

3) Communication

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with individualsand other health care partnerships.

To communicate effectively using a variety of communications skills:verbal, & non-verbal, written and electronic, with a range of individualsand organisations within the NHS.

Make all reasonable attempts to overcome any barriers to understandingthat may occur, giving due consideration to ethnicity, language, educationalability, barriers caused by illness/distress etc. which may adversely affectcommunication.

Assess individual communication needs and understanding for informedconsent.

Working with interpreters [link workers] for non-English speakingpatients.

4) Education, Training & Research

To take responsibility for own professional development undertakingtraining for specific clinical tasks

Participate in clinical audit

Participate in research programmes as appropriate.

Participate in the development and implementation of standards and auditactivities.

Attend all mandatory training courses and the updates and any study daysas appropriate to the post

Attendperformance and development reviews with your line manager.

General Duties:

The Post Holder may be required to work additional hours to coverholidays and sickness.

Maintaining regular consistent attendance, punctuality, personalappearance and adherence to relevant health and safety procedures.

To attend all statutory and mandatory training courses and any coursesspecific to this role as discussed with the line manager.

To be available for staff meetings and meetings with management.

To have a good understanding and follow company policies and procedures.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workersand the general public.

Attend performance and development reviews with your line manager.


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience of working in a GP Practice


Qualifications

* Phlebotomy Training Certificate or evidence of previous experience
* Educated to GCSE level A* - D or equivalent in Mathematics & English
* Willingness to complete further training to complement and support specified role
* Level 2 NVQ/QCF or equivalent in healthcare or customer service-related subject
* Demonstrable experience of working in a health care setting or customer service focused role
* Evidence of complying with legislation, policies and procedures
* Evidence of ability to work under pressure whilst ensuring that patients are your priority
* Experience of basic computer skills including Microsoft Office packages
