Our client is an Award-Winning, Luxury Fit-Out and Construction Main Contractor who is involved in some of the most prestigious projects in the most sought-after parts of London. Our client has been established for over 40 years and has built up a world-class reputation in the industry.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified and experienced Quantity Surveyor looking for a challenging and rewarding role within a growing established organisation. We are looking for a confident and professional individual to join our highly reputable client.
They operate within the commercial, industrial and education sectors, with project values up to £50m. Our client is recognised for their strong team ethic and their ‘people over profit’ approach to their work having been established for over 40 years. All the projects are in the South-East, including Central London and the work is varied and diverse; no two projects are ever the same, creating a challenging and highly rewarding work environment.
The team is a mixture of young professionals and more experienced staff across their offices and the work ethic is to enjoy what they do whilst building long-lasting relationships with clients.
The role of the Quantity Surveyor:
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, your responsibilities will include, but are not be limited to:
Support the commercial function of the business and help ensure the successful delivery of the estimating and surveying responsibilities across both offices, working together with internal and external teams to ensure high safety, quality and environmental standards are upheld.
Support the pre-construction function of the business, providing analysis and comparisons against sub-contract packages, placing orders and programming works to ensure projects are set up correctly.
Maintcompany'sompanies target margin on all secured works, following completion of the pre-construction processes.
Support the procurement and supply chain management function of the business. Procuring services from approved sub-contractors and suppliers following their assessment anbydance with the company’s SCA process.
Produce detailed construction programmes to accompany each project based on supply chain timeframe and resources, showing the critical path and highlighting all dependencies within the project.
Contribute towards the quality-real quality-related qualification, as may be required within the employer’s requirements of each tender. Typically, this involves providing structure-projstructuredfic object specific questions on health and safety, quality assurance and environmental management but occasionally requires input on CSR and stakeholder engagement also.
Be contractually aware,e, in particular, JCT Minor/Intermediate Works and Design and Build forms. Knowledge of NEC contracts and notices would be useful.
Review all contracts and orders placed with the company upon successful award of projects tendered.
Produce and submit monthly valuations on live projects.
Produce price change requests on live projects.
Compile and submit final accounts on live projects.
Maintain and update the internal QS systems on each project, aloCVRsth providing working CVRs. · Continuous review of projects to ensure they are meeting objectives and that maximum value is being achieved at all times.
Ensure statutory compliance of all projects and maintain high standards of health and safety and presentation at all times.
Monitor and report on project successes and target margins against tender predictions and estimates, working to maintain targets on all CVRs.
Promote and facilitate any ‘cross pollination’ opportunities between furniture and fit-out clients.
Provide weekly diary plans covering meetings and appointments, in particular highlighting any association with a possible new project, as well as indicating levels of interest and exposure previously.
Pass on any potential enquiry information to Directors as soon as identified but not exceeding 48hrs after enquiry received.
Attend and contribute to monthly business management meetings, presenting project progress reports for each month.
Contribute towards company corporate entertainment programme, including attendances at events, suggesting new events for known clients and measuring success against expenditure.
Be open to training and continued professional development.
Key KPIs for the Quantity Surveyor
Improve margins on secured works through competitive tendering of sub-contract packages and commercial management.
Identify and capitalise on opportunities to improve margin through change requests and variations on secured works.
Ensure project CVRs are managed on a cost-plus target margin basis.
Aim to maintain and improve where possible the tender margin on all projects.
Ensure sub-contractors are managed appropriately and company values and standards are carried throughout the supply chain.
Ensure you maintain relationships with your key clients and continue to secure a large proportion of repeat business.
Always work with honesty and integrity and build long-lasting relationships with the clients they work with ensuring that they are the first port of call for new projects.
Build long-lasting working relationships with your work colleagues and lead by example to raise the professionalism and value of the business to clients.
To be successful as a Quantity Surveyor, you will need to possess the following:
You will be a degree-educated contractor’s surveyor, with at least 5 years of experience with the main contractor or a fit-out/refurbishment contractor working within the commercial and education sectors. You will also preferably be MRICS or MCIOB qualified.
You will thrive in a team environment and have a keen sense of opportunity as well as strong professional integrity.
You will have excellent IT, literacy, and numeracy skills as well as the ability to analyse and report on commercial matters.
You will have a strong understanding of standard forms of construction contracts (JCT/NEC) with experience in design and build contracting especially.
You will be comfortable managing the commercial performance of multiple projects at a time; producing change requests and comprehensive CVRs as well as monthly valuations and final accounts
You will be highly organised and able to manage your workload independently, with strong experience in working accurately to tight timescales and under pressure.
You will be experienced in working closely with project managers to ensure project objectives and margins are achieved and vital information is correctly recorded and reported.
Much of our client’s business is built on face-to-face engagement with consultants and direct clients and you will be expected to engage with these clients both professionally and socially as part of the team.
Our client has social engagement ambitions that involve working with charities, local youth sports enterprises, support of live music events and the underprivileged. Compassion for such endeavours would be a distinct advantage.
