Technical Author (Contract, Outside IR35 – 6 Months)

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Author to support the creation, maintenance, and control of technical documentation across the full product lifecycle. This contract role will involve producing high-quality documentation to support product development, certification, manufacturing, and in-service support.
You will work closely with engineering and programme teams to translate complex technical information into clear, structured documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency, traceability, and compliance with applicable standards.
Please note, this position is a Contract position, for a minimum of 6 months Outside of IR35.
Key Responsibilities
Documentation Development
*
Produce clear, concise, and technically accurate documentation, including:
*
Requirements and specifications, Design descriptions and technical reports, Test plans, test procedures, and test reports
*
Translate complex engineering concepts into structured, user-friendly technical content.
*
Maintain document quality, consistency, and version control.
Engineering & Stakeholder Interface
*
Work closely with engineers and programme teams to gather, clarify, and validate technical information.
*
Support effective communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Standards & Compliance
*
Ensure documentation aligns with relevant industry and customer standards (e.g. aerospace standards, Boeing D6).
*
Maintain traceability between requirements, design outputs, and verification evidence.
*
Support audits, customer reviews, and certification activities.
Continuous Improvement
*
Improve document templates, writing standards, and documentation workflows.
*
Promote best practice and consistency across all technical documentation.
*
Support knowledge capture and lessons-learned activities.
Skills & Experience
Essential
*
Proven experience as a Technical Author / Technical Writer in an engineering or technical environment.
*
Strong ability to understand and document complex technical systems.
*
Excellent written English with a high level of attention to detail.
*
Experience with document control, configuration management, and versioning.
*
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional technical teams.
Desirable
*
Experience in regulated industries such as aerospace, defence, automotive, medical, or rail.
*
Experience working with Boeing D6 and Advantage.

Familiarity with:
*
Requirements and specifications, Test and verification documentation, Compliance or certification artefacts
*
Basic understanding of electronics, software, or mechanical systems.
