Head of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
Location: Brentwood, Essex
Salary: £41,075 – £52,490 (M4 – UPS3) | Full‑Time | Permanent | September 2026 Start
Responsibilities
* Lead and develop the MFL department across KS3–KS5
* Promote high standards of teaching, learning and achievement
* Support and develop departmental staff through coaching and mentoring
* Monitor student progress and implement strategies to raise attainment
* Lead curriculum development and ensure an engaging, inclusive learning experience
* Contribute to enrichment opportunities, trips and extracurricular activities
* Work closely with senior leaders to drive departmental improvement
Qualifications
* Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* Have strong experience teaching MFL at secondary level
* Demonstrate successful leadership or middle leadership experience
* Be passionate about languages and student achievement
* Have excellent communication, organisation and team leadership skills
* Be committed to maintaining high expectations and an inclusive learning environment
