Assistant Gardener wanted for an attractive and well established garden.
This is a great opportunity for someone to progress their career under an experienced Head Gardener in a beautiful setting in the Meon Valley, near Petersfield.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Assistant Gardener to help us with the ongoing development and maintenance of the grounds of this small privately owned 5 acre garden consisting of herbaceous borders, main lawns, kitchen garden and a small orchard. We have large shrubberies, a meadow and small and large walled gardens. We have two greenhouses and a hedgerow around the boundaries.
As an Assistant Gardener you will be a key member of the team work. You will work closely with the Head Gardener on the development and maintenance of the garden and accompanying grounds and you must be able to work both unsupervised and with the Head Gardener. The successful candidate will possess some horticultural knowledge and have experience from previous gardens. The owners are experienced employers who are keen to promote ongoing professional development.
The successful candidate will be required to work a 40 hour week, Monday to Friday and also have the flexibility to help with some additional weekend watering duties during the summer months.
Contactable references must be given and your own transport required. You will need to be physically fit and have experience using garden machinery. You must be highly organised and efficient with time management, happy to work outdoors in all weathers, speak good English and have a full driving licence. Non smoker please. You will need to have:
* a horticultural qualification
* hold a pa 1 and pa 6 in pesticides
* have a chainsaw certificate
* have done first Aid training (which will be updated in the job when needed)
Duties to include:
* Maintenance and development of borders and beds.
* Planting of perennials, bulbs, trees and shrubs.
* Weeding, mulching, composting and digging of all borders. Looking after flower pots around the main house.
* Propagation of all plants and vegetables in greenhouses. Irragation and watering by hand all the plants and flowers. Pruning and hedge cutting of plants, shrubs and hedges.
* Kitchen garden planning and maintenance of fruit and vegetables. Leaf blowing and maintenance of paths and patios.
* Maintenance and cutting of lawns and meadow areas.
* Ensuring all out buildings are kept clean and tidy at all times.
Remuneration:
Salary in the region of £28,000 subject to qualifications and experience.

28 days holiday with bank holidays included and Statutory sick pay. (SSP)
