Overview
Senior Electrical Engineer role with the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra-low voltage electrical systems and equipment. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial. You will join the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate to provide technical engineering leadership and support to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and commitments to net zero carbon.
Responsibilities
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for electrical systems and equipment (HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites).
* Help develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role which may be within normal working hours or out of hours.
* Provide technical standards, management and leadership across mechanical, electrical and control system activities within the MEICA Engineering Standards team.
* Contribute to shaping how services are delivered to ensure safe, reliable and sustainable assets and support net zero objectives.
Experience / Skills Required
* A good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* A good working knowledge of control systems, including the application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Knowledge and experience in the development and delivery of Safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* A risk-based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including Failure Mode Effects Analysis, reliability systems and processes.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, teamwork and communication skills.
* UK Driving licence.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration with a realistic prospect of registration within 12 months.
Additional information: This is a hybrid role with a base location near to your home. There may be some travel and overnight stays as required.
