Biomedical Scientist – Paediatric Histopathology

We are seeking an HCPC‑registered Biomedical Scientist with histopathology experience to provide scientific services to patients and clients as an aid to clinical diagnosis.
Working pattern: Monday‑Friday 7 am‑7 pm.
Suitable candidates must hold HCPC registration or be in the process of obtaining IBMS portfolio for trainee Band 5 (Anex‑21).
Salary Payable
* (i) up to 12 months before completion of training: 75 % of the top of the band
* (ii) more than 1 but less than 2 years before completion: 70 % of the top of the band
* (iii) more than 2 but less than 3 years before completion: 65 % of the top of the band
* (iv) more than 3 years from completion: 60 % of the top of the band
Pay will not fall below the national minimum wage.
Main duties
* Process tissue samples in line with department protocols and ISO 15189 standards.
* Work as part of a highly dedicated scientific team to ensure quality of all tests performed using internal and external quality schemes.
* Perform specialist automated and manual tests throughout the department and participate in auditing, reagent control, and equipment maintenance.
* Support day‑to‑day supervision of Medical Laboratory Assistants.
* Rotate through all sections of the department and become a fully trained and competent member of the team.
Qualifications
* Relevant BSc degree in Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent) enabling registration with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist.
* HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
* Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).
* Working towards IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology.
Knowledge
* Quality Management Systems in pathology.
* Experience in histopathology.
* Understanding of health and safety requirements within scope of practice.
* Basic physiology, pathology and scientific principles relevant to histopathology.
* Experience in immunohistochemistry.
Skills
* Teamworking.
* Time management and organisation.

Salary: £32,073 to £39,043 a year (pro‑rata) – Annex 21.
