Position: Part Time Community Liaison Officer Location: Weston-super-Mare Salary: £14.00 per hour - 18 Month Fixed term contract, 8 hours per week - 4hrs a day. Preferably Thursday and Friday Our client is currently recruiting a Public Liaison Officer to join their Civil Engineering team on an 18-month fixed-term contract working on the restoration of a Pier. The successful candidate will be working for a specialist contractor delivering structural restoration works as part of North Somerset Council's Pier project. As Public Liaison Officer, you'll be the first point of contact for residents, businesses and community groups, ensuring clear, timely communication. You will coordinate enquiries, support drop-in sessions and public liaison events, create updates for BHCC channels and social media, and contribute to schools/STEM and social value activities. Hours 8 hours per week - 4hrs a day, preferably Thursday and Friday). Occasional evening/weekend events by prior notice. Run drop-in support and assist with quarterly liaison events (planning, delivery, follow-up). Produce short updates for BHCC newsletters/noticeboards and capture photos and basic content (with consent). Support social value activities and schools engagement (assemblies, workshops, site walk- and-talks). Provide regular progress notes to the Marketing/PR team and identify positive story opportunities. Community Liaison Officer Job Requirements Experience in a public-facing/community role; confident communicator in person, on the phone and in writing. Excellent written/spoken English; able to handle conflict professionally. Comfortable producing short written content for newsletters and social media. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Desirable: Public relations training; CSCS; basic photo/video; familiarity with Mailchimp/Canva/CRM; local knowledge. Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain) for work with schools/young people. Awareness of GDPR and image consent when handling enquiries and photography.
