We operate the Buzzard, Golden Eagle and Scott platforms in the North Sea where our business strategy is to maximise the value of our existing portfolio whilst at the same time also creating opportunities for global growth.


The Role:

The Finance Business Partner will provide financial planning and analysis support for the Golden Eagle (operated) and Farragon (non-operated) assets.

Based full-time in the Aberdeen Office, some key responsibilities include budget preparation and approval, cost forecasting, partner billings, life-of-field planning, Project Approval Forms (PAF) / Authorisation for Expenditure (AFE) preparation, monthly cost analysis, and partner liaison. The role will deliver financial insight, advice, and challenge to drive value and manage costs.


What you will bring:

The Finance Business Partner will play a critical role in providing timely, accurate, and value-adding financial information to key stakeholders, including the Asset Manager, asset teams, Finance, and co-venturers. This forward-focused role uses historic trends to inform forecasts, budgets, and strategic planning inputs, while also delivering analysis and advice to support decision-making and value management.

A key member of the asset leadership team, the Finance Business Partner will act as the focal point for co-venturer relationships, ensuring CNOOC meets all obligations under Joint Operating Agreements. This includes preparing and issuing monthly partner reports, coordinating budget submissions, representing the company at Finance and Operating Committee meetings, and chairing Finance Committee meetings. The role also provides leadership in partner financial queries, while liaising with auditors to address audit points and ensure compliance with company controls and approval processes.

Internally, the role coordinates budget preparation and reporting, producing accurate Opex, Capex, and Abex forecasts, as well as Life of Field and Strategic Plan inputs. Responsibilities include preparing monthly asset management reports, chairing cost review meetings, monitoring PAFs/AFEs through the approvals process, and presenting financial results at stewardship meetings. Close collaboration with Finance Operations and wider finance teams ensures ledgers, billings, and reports accurately reflect asset activities and align with Standard Operating Accounting Principles (SOAP) guidance.

The Finance Business Partner will also work closely with other departments to build a thorough understanding of business processes, developing strong relationships across the asset team to effectively represent financial matters. Flexibility is essential, with the ability to cover for other Finance Business Partners during absences or project work. Finally, the role will support continuous improvement and undertake ad-hoc duties as required by the Team Lead.


Who are we looking for:

The successful candidate will be degree-educated and a qualified accountant (ACCA, ACMA, ACA, or equivalent), with essential experience in the oil industry. They will bring a strong background in Joint Venture and Operations accounting, including a solid understanding of Joint Operating Agreements and SOAP guidance. Proficiency in financial systems is required, with SAP BI and reporting skills being critical for effective analysis of asset performance.

The role demands excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage both financial and operational stakeholders clearly and effectively. Candidates must demonstrate the capacity to work proactively under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining integrity, as well as the ability to critically review financial information to support sound decision-making.


CNOOC and You:

In this role, you can participate in our Compressed Work Schedule (CWS), which offers two Fridays off per month in exchange for an additional 45 minutes of work each day. You will work collaboratively with colleagues in the office from Monday to Thursday, and from home on a Friday, when not on a CWS day.
