Practice Manager / Junior Barristers’ Clerk – Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence

This is a unique role for an established Personal Injury/ Clinical Negligence paralegal / case handler who is looking to move away from their fee-earning role in a law firm and pivot their career at a leading Bristol chambers as an Assistant Practice Manager / Barristers Clerk.
This role will use your current legal knowledge and develop other skills such as management of the civil team, client relationships, negotiations and business development.
The Role:
* Act as the key point of contact between solicitors, law firms and counsel throughout the lifecycle of a case.
* Review incoming enquiries, understand the nature of each PI/Clin Neg matter, and match cases to suitable counsel based on experience, availability and rates.
* Manage day-to-day progression of cases, including organising hearings, conferences and meetings.
* Handle fee negotiations.
* Coordinate bundles and case preparation requirements, ensuring counsel have what they need in good time.
* Support barristers’ practice development through regular reviews, diary management and business development activity.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with instructing solicitors, attending events, meetings and networking opportunities once established in the role.
What experience is required:
You may currently work in a law firm or insurance company as a fee-earning paralegal or case handler specifically focussed in the Personal injury/ clinical negligence sector either claimant or defendant.
Suitable backgrounds might include:
* Legal executives, paralegals or assistants in PI/Clin Neg.
* Claims handlers within insurance companies.
* PI/Clin Neg fee earners seeking a non-targeted, people-focused role.
* Those with partial or completed CILEx, LPC or bar training.
Key traits:
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Ability to build rapport and manage relationships at all levels.
* Organisational ability and confidence handling multiple moving parts.
* A collaborative, service-oriented mindset — the role combines elements of coaching, coordination and commercial awareness.
* Gravitas and professionalism when dealing with both clients and counsel.
* The emphasis is on the ability to support and develop others while maintaining excellent client service.
