Business Analyst

Lead discovery, shape requirements, and drive digital change that strengthens NHS services for staff and improves outcomes for patients.
This role is central to how we understand problems and shape the right solutions across our services. You'll work with clinical and operational colleagues to uncover how things work today, map processes and identify opportunities to improve how our digital services support care.
You'll take the lead in bringing structure to complex situations - turning insight into clear, actionable requirements and guiding delivery teams so improvements translate into real-world impact and better patient outcomes.
Strong facilitation and communication skills are essential. You'll run workshops, challenge assumptions, create clarity where it's missing and ensure solutions are well-defined, user-centred and embedded effectively into practice.

The Business Analyst will support the delivery of organisational change initiatives by working with stakeholders to understand current processes, define business needs, and identify opportunities for improvement. The postholder will lead requirements gathering activities, analyse and document business processes, and ensure requirements are clearly defined, validated, and communicated to support successful solution design and implementation.
The postholder will facilitate workshops, undertake business process modelling, support option appraisals and impact assessments, and help translate operational needs into deliverable change requirements. They will work closely with stakeholders across services to build consensus, manage expectations, and support the adoption of new processes and ways of working.
The Business Analyst will coordinate delivery activity, maintain documentation and governance artefacts, and act as a key link between operational teams and technical teams throughout the full project lifecycle. The role will contribute to the successful delivery of change initiatives through effective stakeholder engagement, planning, testing, implementation support, and continuous service improvement.

Job responsibilities
Lead and deliver requirements gathering, process mapping, stakeholder engagement, service improvement and change activities across change initiatives, applying appropriate methods, tools, and techniques to support process redesign, impact assessment, and implementation planning in line with organisational objectives.
Build effective working relationships with stakeholders across services, facilitating workshops, managing requirements, supporting consensus, and enabling teams to adopt new processes and ways of working.
The postholder will:
* Provide support where the business analysis specialism is most relevant (this may be leading business analysis activities or supporting others, depending on the scale and complexity).
* Transform analytical findings into clear, data-driven actions and strategic recommendations that guide decision-making and service improvements.
* Interrogate and interpret qualitative and quantitative data such as service performance and patient outcomes and convert into actionable insights. Identify trends, inefficiencies and opportunities. Assess data quality to avoid misinterpretation or misapplication.
* Make the complex simple take complex information and distil, theme, summarise and adapt so that is tailored to individual stakeholder groups. Use creative methods and techniques to engage and present, relaying information, insights and key messages in everyday language.
* Model a collaborative, influential and flexible style of working, pre-empting and planning for potential challenging conversations and reactions, for example due to findings or change recommendations.
* Draw on wider fields such as Change Management, Continuous Improvement, Improvement Science, Research and Innovation to supplement and broaden knowledge and practice.
* Flexibility and resilience are required due to working in a dynamic and fast paced team with competing priorities.
* The post holder will be expected to be able to meet the travel and flexible working requirements of the role. Ability to travel between sites and areas will be required. Ability to work remotely or from hot desk facilities at different sites is essential.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Degree or equivalent experience in healthcare, quality improvement, change management, or a related field.
* Formal training or equivalent experience in Business Analysis (e.g. BCS Foundation Certificate in Business Analysis, BCS Certificate in Business Analysis)
* Formal training or equivalent experience in Improvement Science or Change Management methodologies
Experience
* Experience of applying business analysis techniques within large-scale initiatives in a service focused organisation
* Significant experience of supporting the development and implementation of business change which impacts patients / customers and/or the workforce
* Experience of conducting both quantitative and qualitative analysis from problem statement and research questions through to findings and recommendations
* Experience of producing detailed written reports, communication materials and presentations for a variety of stakeholders
* Experience of applying improvement, innovation or transformation tools and frameworks in an NHS organisation or related industry.
* Experience supporting initiatives which are multi-agency or involving 3rd parties.
Knowledge and Skills
* Able to select and apply a broad range of business analysis tools and approaches. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach.
* Working knowledge of change management and service or workforce redesign
* Proficient in the use of business analysis to support in the development and comparison of solutions, assessing the feasibility of solution options against the objectives of the change.
* Ability to review, interpret, manipulate and present complex data / information
* Understanding of NHS structures, policies, and strategic priorities.
* Ability to project / estimate the impact of to-be states and then analyse outcomes once implemented.
